Hakani Project

Dear Friends of the Hakani Project,

Earlier today we received communication that Muwaji's Law is on the agenda for a vote by the Human Rights Commission on Wednesday, August 5th, at 2pm.

Pr. Eli Ticuna just returned from a trip to several indigenous tribes. Wherever he went, he noticed a stirring among the indians caused by the Hakani film, fueling their desire for change. Just in the last 4 weeks, indians from 20 ethnicities were able to watch the film for the first time and discuss the problem of infanticide. At several locations public meetings were organized and the indians prepared documents requesting immediate approval of Muwaji's Law by the Human Rights Commission. On Wednesday morning Eli will be delivering to the Congress a petition with hundreds of indian signatures who would like Congress' help in protecting the rights of indigenous children.

If you'd like to support the efforts of this indigenous initiative, please send a message to Congressman Luiz Couto, president of the Human Rights Commission. It can be a short message such as the one below that can be cut-and-pasted into a brand new email. The message can go on the subject line, as well as in the body of the email:

Message: Eu apoio a Lei Muwaji

(Translated: I support Muwaji's Law)
